One my most beloved memories is the arrival of a toy train into my house, which was given to me as a gift more than thirty years ago: with the railway pieces included in the box, one could build a fairly big enough track, however nothing compared to the LIMA or RIVAROSSI diorama I used to see on the magazines of the time.
For some years I used to wonder from store to store looking for locomotives and carriages to be added to my small railway ring: shortly after Alma Giochi and SUBBUTEO brought me onto other gaming islands, and the train stopped in a drawer.
Due to University, twenty years ago I started a “career” as a commuter on the train to Rome; hence, I used to hate everything that could deal with that darn mean of transport. I therefore missed the train games era, because the only idea that could connect train to games to me was the Tressette matches that I and the other historical characters of that line used to play aboard.
I overcame this allergy only recently, and thanks to German games: I consider UNION PACIFIC and TICKET TO RIDE to be two masterpieces, and since the Rome-Civitavecchia line isn’t represented I can play those games with no fear.
However, I dare to open TICKET TO RIDE EUROPE: what if my love for train games stops at Palo Laziale*?
