GIOCO ITALIANO

Since the '60s, the "Italian school" of board game was characterized by some peculiarities: the main one was the way the Italian authors were developing their games, starting from... the theme!
During the '90s, some Italian authors were on the German market, with good results: Leo Colovini/Venice Connection games are more in the German style, but nevertheless, their success (and the Colovini's Premio Archimede contest for authors) was very important for all Italian authors.
Recently, we discovered that there were many Italian authors (a "scene", finally!), devoted to the old Italian school, with drawers full of good ideas: we started working with them... and it seems that now we can call "Gioco Italiano" (Italian Game) a tipology of games slightly different from the German and American ones!
Gioco Italiano has a strong bond between the theme and the mechanics, simple rules and short gameplay (with respect to similar non-Italian games), "artistic" graphics and... a very good appeal for people of any age and gender (which is not a standard, at least in Italy): many new Italian companies (daVinci, Nexus, Red Omega, Rose & Poison, Kidult...) and self producers (Emanuele Ornella/Mind the Move, Angelo Porazzi...) publish games easily fitting in those lines, as you can see in this new GiocAreA issue. We hope you like it!
