GiòCondor
(the Dark Side of GiocAreA) offers you - players without a social life - some suggestions on how to adapt rules for two or more players in order to turn them into fascinating single player games of patience (well, sort of). Let’s look at some of these.

lonely playerMASTERMIND. Playing alone MASTERMIND is simple but quite expensive in terms of time and money: a single game may cost you thousands dollars and take more than a year to complete.
First of all, make up your secret code. Done? Good. Now, go to the nearest airport, take the first flight for Paris and stay there at least two months, getting drunk every day and passing the nights in night clubs. Go back home: surely you forgot about the code. Then try to guess it! Put your 4 coloured small pins, look at the code and mark your answer with the white and black pins. You are now ready for a second try... but you have just seen again your code and you still remember it. No problem: get in the street, look for a policeman and tell him you are actually the one who shot J.F.K. If you keep swearing, surely you will pass some time in a prison cell or in a nursing home. You will go through a shaking experience, and when you finally go back home you can continue your game of MASTERMIND with your second move. Look at the secret code: still wrong? Then put accordingly your white and black pins, and search your house for a blindfold: you will need it to play SUPER BLIND HIGHWAY ROAD CROSSING. You can be sure that three months spent in the nearest Hospital suspended between life and death will make you to forget about the secret code: and how wonderful it is to return home on a wheelchair and resume the game where you last stopped it!
There are countless ways to keep going with the game: the Foreign Legion, the set of Star Wars movie, a closed case in the bottom of the sea... these are merely examples of places where you can spend some time waiting for your next move, determined to beat yourself in this exciting game.

lonely playerDIPLOMACY. Playing alone DIPLOMACY is possible, if you happen to have several split personalities. Exploit these moments of major crisis, when you think you are a boardgame lover and read GiocAreA OnLine, to set up the board on the table, easily seen, with a Post-It asking the other people who share your body to read the rules; you can also add relevant notes on the game in progress. Before each move, exchange suggestions and strategies with other personalities, leaving on the table sealed letters addressed to you.
Be honest and don’t read messages which are addressed to you and not to you!

lonely playerPICTIONARY. Obviously, playing with you trying to guess secret items, places or actions is too simple. However, you can follow this simple suggestion: put the card with the word to be guessed (without reading it) in the centre of a five-pointed star: you will draw this by yourself using a chalk on a round table.
Turn off the lights, join your hand to make a chain and concentrate: you have to summon a spirit of the dead. When you are in contact with this disembodied soul, gently ask her to possess you so you can draw on a paper sheet the word ––the spirit can read it looking under the table.
Take care to be very polite in your plea to avoid unpleasant hitches like throwing of things and expectorations of greenish substances. When you leave the trance status, you have one minute to work out the picture. Immediately after, get ready for a new spiritualist séance: luckily, there is a lavishly amount of roaming souls!

lonely playerLOOPIN’ LOUIE. This way of playing LOOPIN’ LOUIE is suitable for most other so-called action/dexterity games. Search your house for a radioactive isotope: obviously some time ago you have put one in a drawer for a future use. Spread it on the bread together with marmalade, and eat it. In the next few days, defying any known genetic law, two additional long arms will grow: that’s just what you needed! From now on, you won’t bother playing CARROM constantly changing place around the table.

lonely playerTENNIS. Even if TENNIS, quite oddly, is considered a sport instead of an action/dexterity game, we will give here a brief and clear advice to play it alone.
The trick is playing on an asteroid which has a diameter of only few meters, making sure that the net passes over one of the poles.
The rest is simple: just serve the ball, turn 180 degrees and get ready to receive the ball. Turn back again and go on until the ball hits the net or touches the playfield twice in a row. In such a case, keep track of the score and start again. If you are fast enough and you have a pair of shorts and a short skirt handy, you can even think to arrange for a mixed doubles game.
